Millimetres vs Carat Weight Measurements

When shopping for a diamond, it’s important to understand the difference between millimetre size and carat weight.

While carat weight measures the mass of the diamond, millimetre size refers to its actual surface dimensions. Essentially, carat weight helps define the diamond’s weight, while millimetre size tells you how big it looks.

It’s important to note that diamonds of the same carat weight can appear slightly different in size, depending on the shape and cut.

For example, an oval diamond of the same carat weight as a round diamond may appear slightly larger due to its elongated shape.

We carefully consider both measurements to ensure that every diamond we offer looks just as stunning as it feels.

While carat weight is a key factor in determining a diamond’s size, the shape and cut play significant roles in how large the diamond appears.

Different shapes distribute weight in different ways, and as a result, some diamonds can look larger than their carat weight suggests.

For example, an oval or emerald cut can appear larger for its carat weight, while a round brilliant cut may appear more compact, despite the same carat weight.

The depth of the diamond also impacts its appearance - while a deeper diamond might look smaller face-up, it can hold more weight below the surface.

Below you will find approximate diamond millimetres compared to diamond carat weights.
